Single six brass4/29/2023 ![]() ![]() That same XR3-RED shaped grip frame is still in use today in Single-Sixes, Blackhawks, short barreled Super Blackhawks, and now Wranglers. The fit and mechanics of the grip frames were the same but the XR3-RED had a different profile and used different grips. the first were "XR3" then in 1961, Ruger changed the grip frame to a "XR3-RED". there were two different aluminum alloy grip frames for OM Single-Sixes. Even current blued New Model Single-Sixes have aluminum alloy grip frames. In the mid-'80s, Ruger made some Bisley New Model Single-Sixes that had blued steel grip frames. ![]() When New Models went into production in '73, that still held true until the late '70s, when stainless steel Single-Sixes became available, which had stainless steel grip frames. Madisonian, When Ruger first started shipping Single-Sixes in 1953, they all had aluminum alloy grip frames. ![]()
